Chapter 63: Butterflies are Free
It is time once again to Stew on this!
Metaphysical writer Louise Hay says that a 2nd cervical subluxation is caused by, among other things, “denial of spirituality.” No wonder they are so common! It seems to be part of the human condition to deny, forsake or forget our Innate Intelligence and therefore to deny wholeness, oneness, abundance and love.
I have always attributed the incredible prevalence of upper cervical subluxations to the birth process. Thinking about it, the way our culture generally approaches that is a perfect example of denying our spirituality!
I can successfully deny, forsake or forget Innate, but the irony is that It is always within me and all around me. It IS me! And you, too! Yet, I have extraordinary ability to be like a fish asking where the water is.
When I deny Innate, I forget what and who I am, and I am much more likely to engage in thoughts and actions that come from a place of separation, lack and “what’s in it for me?”
I get lots of opportunities to do this because I can override my deepest truth by being in my head. It tends to obsess over whatever grabs its attention. Often that is about what is missing or might be missing or what is wrong or might be wrong later or what might have been wrong yesterday.
My head tends to place my issues and potential issues directly in front of my eyeballs and keep them there, which makes it considerably harder to see the love and wholeness!
Other animals do not seem to have these same challenges.
In Tahoe right now, there is a mass migration of California tortoiseshell butterflies going on. Literally millions of them are heading up the mountains to go dormant for the rest of the summer above tree line. We go up the mountains often too so we have seen MANY of them as they’ve swarmed around us.
It reminds me of the Kokanee salmon that go upstream by the thousands to spawn in one of our streams every October. Both of these spectacles of Mother Nature inspire me to consider that:
SO much is ALWAYS going on within and around me. How much do I miss being in my head with pebbles stuck in my eyeballs?
How do the butterflies and salmon know to do what they do? Are they taught how in school? Are they required to do it or obligated by religious reasons? Do they read about it in books? Do they form committees to discuss the matter?
No, they are following the call of Innate, simply being butterflies and salmon. They just use the gifts they were given. They just KNOW – and more importantly, they do not say no to what they KNOW!
Perhaps that is where the expression, “Butterflies are free” came from.
I have unique gifts too, but I can say no to them. I can focus instead on why I cannot do things or why it would be better to do something else that would bring me some sense of security, sensation or power.
The tortoiseshells appear small and seem fragile individually. I sometimes feel small and fragile too, but as opposed to the butterflies, I let that perception stop me.
I have improved tremendously in my intention to spend more of my moments in my heart so I can hear and answer the call of Innate, but I cannot say I have reached butterfly status as yet.
So, I shall keep doing and teaching the heart-work because it is the best way I know of to get out of the head and move the pebbles away a bit. It is the best way I know to connect with that bigger, smarter, freer, unlimited part of myself.
I fully recognize that my head will undoubtedly continue to deny my highest truth in the future, and doing the heart-work ALL the time helps me to be better prepared for that when it happens. Then I have a better chance of questioning it when it insists it knows better than Innate does.
I imagine that as long as I am living under this head, I will always be shifting between it and my heart. So, I intend to keep practicing returning to my heart no matter how many times I find myself upstairs, no matter how many pebbles show up in my eyeballs, no matter how many times my head chooses to deny my spirituality, and no matter what justification it comes up with for doing so.
Stew on that, and I shall see you next time.
